Parish News
Divine Mercy Sunday. Rest in peace, Pope Francis.
WHERE DO WE MEET THE RISEN JESUS? It is the evening of Easter Sunday, and I am prayerfully, gratefully and joyfully reflecting on the good news that Jesus is risen, Jesus is alive, Jesus is with us, and Jesus is Lord! Alleluia! Glory and praise to Him! But where do we meet the risen Jesus today? Well, of course in the Scriptures and at holy Mass, but also in each-other. This past holy week we had a kind of camino of our own around the parish, where we journeyed through the passion, death, and resurrection of the Lord in our four churches. I am so impressed by the level of participation, prayerfulness, and attendance throughout these three holiest days of the year. Thank you for that. I saw Jesus risen and present in how you gave time to Him, and to each other. Thank you also for your Easter cards, gifts, Easter eggs, and expressions of thanks for the Holy Week ceremonies and for your words of thanks and encouragement for my ministry. That’s the risen Jesus present and active as well, and all I can say in reply is that I’m humbled by your kindness and care and thank you to you too. It’s an honour and a privilege. Thank you to our Parish Pastoral Council and our Parish Finance Committee for their time and energy. Thank you to all involved in the Holy Week and Easter liturgies in whatever way you served and may the risen Jesus and His Blessed Mother continue to walk beside you every step of the way. We are never alone, and nothing is impossible with God. The newsreel of Pope Francis struggling to speak and bless today was very moving, and is itself a sign of resurrection hope, of the life that will never die. We commend his soul into the arms of a God whose divine mercy is limitless. Pope Francis introduced this year as a Jubilee Year of Hope. The risen Jesus is our hope. He has already conquered evil and sinfulness on the cross, and now their power is only temporary. Let us never give up on our hope for the healing of this world, and of our personal lives, and let us do our bit to bring that about. As the statement issued by Pope Francis after the recent synod strikingly puts it: “the Church exists to bear witness in the world to the most decisive moment in history: the resurrection of Jesus.” A blessed Easter season to you all! Fr. Robert
CONGRATULATIONS to Sean Howe on his reception into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil in Galway Cathedral. Congratulations to Sean and Catherine Garrihy on their marriage this week, and to their fellow parishioners Aileen O’Sullivan and Shane Considine who also celebrated the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony this week.
CLARE RED CROSS are taking up their Church gate collection this weekend. One great corporal work of mercy that I never realised they do is to provide transport for people who need chemo and other serious treatments. God bless their work and thank you to them. Thank you to them also for their gift of a first aid kit to the parish.
FAITH AND LIGHT wish to thank you for your help with raising almost €4500 for their Easter Pilgrimage to Lourdes.
THANKYOU FOR YOUR GENEROUSITY TO LAST WEEK’S COLLECTION: €3147, and to the Easter Dues: €4362. Sincere thanks for your kind support.
DIVINE MERCY DEVOTIONS AND MASS: this Sunday in Inagh, beginning at 2pm with Confessions. Celebrant: Fr Martin Shanahan, preacher: Fr. Robert McNamara PP.
